Quick Start Guide

This page will walk you through the installation and use of the Life-Prints Child Protection Technology Software. There are several sections on this page:

These instructions are also available as a downloadable PDF file, for easy printing. You need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software to open it. You will probably already have this software installed on your PC, but if you still need it you can download it for free at: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

If you are installing Life-Prints Software:

• Please print this guide for future reference.
• The default password is lifeprints4u,
  Note: For security purposes please change it to your own confidential password from within the preferences menu prior to entering information.
• After you have printed this guide you may close this window by pressing the X in the top right corner of this window and finishing the installation.
• Upon completion you will see a new Life-Prints icon on your desktop and the Life-Prints software will be listed in the All Programs, START section of your Windows menu.

Option 1: INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE FROM A DOWNLOAD:

1. Log into your computer as a user with Administrator rights.
2. Double click the downloaded Life-Prints installer file.
3. Click Continue to begin the installation process.
4. Select the folder to unzip the files to and click the Ok button.
5. Once the installation is complete, click the Ok button to view the Life-Prints menu.
6. From the Life-Prints menu screen, click the Install link.
7. From the Welcome screen of the installer, click the Next button.
8. Click I Agree if you agree to the License Agreement, click the Next button.
9. Select a folder to install the software to, and click the Next button.
10. Click the Next button to confirm the installation.
11. Once the application has successfully installed, click the Close button.

Option 2: INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE FROM A CD:

1. Insert the Life-Prints Application CD.
2. Click the Install Life-Prints button from the menu
3. From the Welcome screen of the installer, click the Next button.
4. Click I Agree if you agree to the License Agreement, click the Next button.
5. Select a folder to install the software to, and click the Next button.
6. Click the Next button to confirm the installation.
7. Once the application has successfully installed, click the Close button.

ACTIVATING THE LIFE-PRINTS SOFTWARE:

1. Open the Life-Prints software by double-clicking the desktop icon or using the start menu.
2. On the login screen, enter the default password 'lifeprints4u'.
3. If you have an Activation Code, click the Enter Activation Code button. To purchase an Activation Code, click the Purchase Activation Code Now button.
4. Enter your information.
5. Click the Save Changes button to activate the software.

OPENING THE LIFE-PRINTS SOFTWARE IN DEMO MODE:

1. Open the Life-Prints software by double-clicking the desktop icon or using the start menu.
2. On the login screen, enter the default password 'lifeprints4u'.
3. Click the Open Life-Prints in DEMO mode button.
4. Click OK on the informational message box to start the software in DEMO mode.

CHANGING YOUR PASSWORD:

1. Log in to the software the first time using the default password 'lifeprints4u'.
2. Select the Change Password option under the Actions menu.
   
   
3. Enter your new password.
4. Enter your new password again.
   
5. Click the Save Changes button.

CREATING A NEW ELECTRONIC FINGERPRINT TRANSMISSION (EFT) FILE:

1. Click the File menu, and select the New option.
   
2. Click Add Photo button to add a photo.
   
3. Click the Identity tab, enter your information.
4. Click the Description tab, enter your information.
5. Click the Third Party Contacts tab, enter your information.
   
6. Click the Save button on the left side of the screen, or use the Save option under the File menu.
   
7. Enter a filename, click the Save button.

OPENING AN ELECTRONIC FINGERPRINT TRANSMISSION (EFT) FILE:

1. Click the Open button on the left side of the screen, or use the Open option under the File menu.
   
2. Select the file you would like to open, click the Open button.

ACTIVATING AN ALERT:

1. Click the red Emergency button on the left side of the screen, or use the Emergency Alert option under the Actions menu.
   
   
   
2. Click OK on the Application Warning.
   
3. Follow the steps on the screen.
4. Click the Transmit Data button.
5. Select the alerts to initiate and enter the appropriate data (local law enforcement email address and/or NA NCMEC Case Number).
   
6. Click Continue.
7. Click Browse and select the ChildInfo.zip file located on your Desktop.
   
8. Click Initiate Alert button.

CREATING A TRAVEL/EMERGENCY USB FLASH DRIVE:

1. Click the Update Flash Device button on the left side of the screen.
2. Click Yes to overwrite existing data on the flash device. WARNING: this operation will erase ALL existing data on your flash device.
   
3. Click OK once the device is updated successfully.
   

USING THE TRAVEL/EMERGENCY USB DEVICE:

1. Insert Flash device into a USB port.
2. Double click on the self-extracting EXE file.
3. Click Continue button.
4. Choose a target directory for the extracted files.
5. Enter your password when prompted.
6. Click OK button once extraction is complete.
7. All facial and fingerprint images of the child should now be available in the target directory along with an HTML summary document and an FBI EFT file.
